I just now noticed, while on a coffee "break" and from my mobile device, the shout box is far from perfect at lower resolutions. I will work on that.

Will investigate, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

One thing, you are using a cached style sheet. The font is black of "Shout Box", ect. It should be white-ish (#ddd specifically) and I updated the css to do so but, your browser is not downloading the new style. Hold down "ctrl" and press F5 or clear your browser's cache. I do not think this is in anyway related to your "last message" issue. That will take some work on my end. I am on it.
